12. SWIMSUITS (flaunt or fix)
This is my last “flaunt or fix” post. I was going to post this a few days ago but I couldn’t. So to round it off, my last post will be about flaunting, selecting the perfect swimsuit for your body type. Summer maybe ending but who says you can’t wear swimsuits after summer?
BOTTOM HEAVY
- Just like in selecting a dress, you should take the focus away from your bottom half. Try wearing a printed top with a solid bottom. Draw attention away from the lower part of your body by wearing tops that enhance your upper body like halters, padded and push-up tops. Go for bikinis and tankini separates so you can mix and match different sizes.
SHORT TORSO
- Make sure that your suit is a bright color and that the hips are cut high while the chest is cut low. High hips will make your legs look longer while the V-cuts of low neck lines will help to give the illusion of length to your torso. Don’t select suits with wrap skirts, which make your legs look short or thick straps which only make your body look smaller. Make it look longer with a scoop or V-neck top. And consider a tankini that shows a little of your middle.
LONG TORSO
-Try out a tankini with a horizontal break or stripe under the bust line with high-cut bottoms. A two-piece tankini will break up the line visually and will fit better. Avoid high neck bathing suit tops as well as vertical stripes, which can make your torso appear longer. A sports top will also camouflage a long torso by creating a more uniform look.
SMALL BUST
- Look for swimsuit with push-up underwire styles. Try a top that has ruffles or a horizontal neckline. This draws attention away from your small chest, but also gives off the appearance of a fuller bust. Go with a darker-colored bottom and a lighter-colored top
LARGE BUST
- With large busts it’s all about providing support. Try a sports top. These tops keep everything in place and add the comfort of full coverage. Avoid flimsy materials like cotton and look for suits made out of the more forgiving Lycra. Many bathing suits come equipped with underwire bras and molded cups for a better, more supportive fit. To draw attention away from a large chest, wear a solid dark color on top and a solid light color on the bottom.
